Getting a Dachshund puppy

Me and my brain waves, this was just one of many. 'Lets get a puppy' I said! Joe didn't take much convincing because lets face it; I wear the trousers!
I envisioned a little puppy that just wants cuddles and cute family walks. I don't think I was quite prepared for what getting a puppy really meant. Our timing was completely off!
We did a lot of research and narrowed down what breed we wanted between a Dachshund and a Bassett Hound.

We chose a Dachshund because:
1) They are so stinking cute!
2) Nice size for a small house and garden
3) Apparently very clever dogs
4) Child-friendly

We picked up Peggy just 2 weeks before the wedding. I was definitely not prepared for the amount of bodily fluids and excrement cleaning that came with owning a puppy. I also was not prepared for the amount of play biting! She bites the socks on our feet and clings for dear life! Its like a game of tug and war and you can guarantee Peggy always wins! My converse laces are no more! And our slippers have been claimed by her, RIP.

Dachshunds are supposedly very clever dogs but I'm not sure why they are so difficult to toilet train! I will sit outside with her for half an hour for her to run indoors and poop on the front door mat! Combine this with trying to potty train a defiant 2 year old and I have a battle on my hands I'm not sure I will ever win? (I'll have to let you know how we get on with this one!)

Despite the difficulties we have faced and the crazy timing with getting a puppy and entering the most stressful part of wedding planning all at the same time, I can hands down say we have made the right decision to welcome a four legged friend into our home. We have spent more time in the great outdoors than ever before, we just put her in the car and off we go to the seaside or woods for walks and adventures.
However when going anywhere with a miniature sausage dog puppy be prepared for your trip to take ALOT longer than you think! Everyone stops you, everyone wants to stroke your sausage dog and tell you how much they also want a sausage dog!

Thankyou for reading, we hope you stick around

The Harmons x
